Glen Iris Inn

Built by Alva Palmer in 1828 and acquired by William Letchworth in 1859. Indians named the area "An-de-ka-ga-kwa" (the place where the sun lingers) meaning the sun pauses for a moment as it passes over the glen. Letchworth chose the word Iris, a synonym for rainbow and named his estate Glen Iris.
